WYTHAM WOODS: HORSE LOGGING
During the last year we have been thinning a compartment of beech. In order to minimise the disturbance to the ground vegetation and to any research activities we have been utilising horses to extract the timber.
The results have been highly successful. No ruts have been created within the underlying clays, none of the remaining trees has been damaged during the extraction process and no research affected. Future management of the woodland will include the use of horses for extraction purposes.
