In its July 2007 edition
BBC Wildlife Magazine asked a panel of experts to compile and rank a list of the UK's 50 most influential living conservationists. The list is intended to help in the magazine's mission to raise awareness of how the natural world can best be preserved.
Nominations came from readers and the magazine's advisory panel before being handed to the judges. David's work with WildCRU as well as his films and books earned him ninth place in the list topped by Prince Charles in first and Sir David Attenborough in second.
