Mongabay reports on the difficulties facing young conservationists

Mongabay.com spoke to young conservationists about their experiences finding work. The article examines how a tight job market and high educational and experience requirements are preventing many finding paid positions, which may be a detriment to conservation efforts in the future.

The interviewees included Lucero Vaca, currently completing a PhD at WildCRU on human-wildlife conflict with jaguars. She said, “Conservation is not a priority in my country, even though Mexico is considered one of the mega-diverse countries in the world…. If we stop underestimating people based on their age and let young conservationists [carry] out their innovative ideas, we will have awesome results in conservation.”
