The Oxford Format: Outbreeding Ideas for Conservation Success

Following the success of the Cecil SummitDavid Macdonald and Guillaume Chapron have borrowed from diplomatic language to emphasise the power of Oxford Format meetings.

A particular style of meetings, dubbed The Normandy Format, was originally fashioned to tackle the crisis facing Ukraine. The Oxford Format, involving enforced inter-disciplinarity, appears to be a fruitful way to tackle the crises facing conservation. Reminded of President Reagan’s  famous Brandenberg Gate Speech to President Gorbachov, David and Guillaume observe that tearing down walls between disciplines seems to have been  no easier than tearing down those between nations, but it is essential to 21st Century conservation.
