Valerie Mitchell LMH-WildCRU Graduate Scholarships are open for applications
WildCRU is pleased to offer two new studentships, which provide partial funding, generously supported by an alumna of our collegiate base, Lady Margaret Hall. The second phase of the Valerie Mitchell LMH-WildCRU Graduate Scholarships will commence in Michaelmas 2025 and provide an opportunity for talented graduates to contribute to WildCRU’s mission to transform wildlife conservation through world-class research, training and implementation. The funded students will have flexibility in their research topic, but they should align with one of WildCRU’s nine themes: changing landscapes; essential knowledge; conflict and coexistence; incentivising conservation; health, welfare and ethics; wildlife use and misuse; controversial conservation; conservation recovery; and communicating conservation.
To be eligible for consideration, students must first discuss and develop their applications with a WildCRU supervisor and apply for doctoral study through the normal University of Oxford application process. More information about the University of Oxford’s postgraduate (D.Phil) application process is available here. Candidates who successfully obtain a postgraduate position via the University process will be considered by the Selection Committee for the two funded scholarships. Final selection will involve an interview with the Selection Committee, with awards expected to be granted by summer 2025.
Scholars will be considered based on academic excellence and the quality of their proposal for an appropriate and innovative project. The Scholarships of £25,000 per year are sufficient to fund institutional fees at the rate of home (UK) students, and a contribution towards a stipend, for three years.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
