WildCRU’s final report published on the ecology of reintroduced beavers at Knapdale

April 13, 2015

Since May 2009, the WildCRU has been acting as one of the Independent Monitoring Partners for the Scottish Beaver Trial in Knapdale, Argyll. The WildCRU team, led by Dr Lauren Harrington, in collaboration with Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), has been responsible for independent monitoring of the ecology and behaviour of the 16 beavers translocated from Norway to Scotland and released at Knapdale. The trial was carried out by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, with independent monitoring for Scottish Government coordinated by SNH. SNH are due to report to Scottish Government on the outcomes of the trial next month. Details of the trial as a whole, including our own final report on beaver ecology, are available on the SNH website: http://www.snh.gov.uk/protecting-scotlands-nature/reintroducing-native-species/scottish-beaver-trial/.
