Dr Paul D. Stewart
Alumni
Paul did his D.Phil on the Social Behaviour of the European badger Meles meles with WildCru from 1993-1997.
With Stephen Ellwood he developed techniques for remote infra-red video surveillance of badgers which are still in use on the project. His work looked at the behavioural under-pining of Badger groups. The badger vocalisation research was one component of this study, which ranged from scent marking at latrines to allogrooming and division of den maintenance effort at setts.
Paul left WildCru to join the BBC Natural History Unit in 1997. Since then Paul has worked worldwide on most of the unit’s ‘Blue Chip’ productions including Blue Planet, Life in Cold Blood, Life of Mammals, Galapagos, Planet Earth and most recently Yellowstone. As a Cameraman and Producer he has won numerous awards including two Emmy’s and BAFTA’s as well as Best of Festival and Best Series awards in recent industry gatherings. He is currently working on a North America series for Discovery.
