I hold a BSc degree in Environmental Science from Aberystwyth University and an MSc in Conservation Biology from Manchester Metropolitan University. I have undertaken varied research in several different countries including the impact of African elephants on vegetation in Kenya and orang utan population surveys in Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo.

In 2006 I began a camera trapping study, with Andrew Hearn, in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. With a special focus on the Sunda clouded leopard (Neofelis diardi) this research is to estimate population densities, investigate the effects of habitat change on, and better understand the conservation status of Borneo’s wild cats.

In addition to the Sunda clouded leopard our work concentrates on the marbled cat (Pardofelis marmorata), the bay cat, the flat-headed cat (Prionailurus planiceps) and the leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis).In addition to the felid-focused research my interests lie in understanding the effects of habitat modification on Sunda clouded leopard prey. I am also interested in the habitat requirements and responses to habitat change of the viverrid guild, in particular the Malay civet (Viverra tangalunga) and banded palm civet (Hemigalus derbyanus).
