PROFILE
I am an ecologist and conservation scientist. My main research interests are behavioural ecology and conservation culturomics. My past research focused on understanding animal behavioural and physiological responses to environmental changes, particularly in urban settings. In conservation culturomics, I used big data approaches to highlight trends in public interest in local and invasive species and to show how we can use these insights to study ecological patterns and inform biodiversity conservation.
My current research focuses on digital human-nature interactions across multiple online platforms (Google, social media, citizen science, etc.), trying to understand people’s interest in biodiversity in the UK and elsewhere and how it is affecting biodiversity conservation. Taking a methodological approach to culturomics, comparing interest and awareness of species across all taxonomic groups could highlight when and how we can use these novel data sources to advance conservation science, education, and policy.
