Unsustainable seabird hunting presents a conservation challenge in Cabo Verde despite legal protections.
This project designed and evaluated a school-based behavioural intervention targeting the drivers of seabird hunting among children and adolescents across Santiago Island. Interactive sessions on seabird ecology and gamified conservation exercises were combined with creative activities including drawing and poetry, alongside community research such as intergenerational interviews with elders.
Results showed that children in the intervention group demonstrated stronger factual knowledge, conservation awareness, and emotional engagement with seabird protection than those in the control group.
