Luca Feuerriegel is a MSc student in Biodiversity, Conservation and Nature Recovery at the School of Geography and the Environment. Luca’s research project focuses on conflict between commercial farmers and elephants in Namibia’s Kunene region, with a focus on costs and benefits of elephants and associated tolerance of farmers towards elephants. Local farmers requested research on this topic, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Namibia Nature Foundation. He is supervised by Dr. Darragh Hare.

Luca holds a BSc from Maastricht University, the Netherlands, where he studied liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on ecology, animal behaviour, political science and philosophy. After his BSc, Luca worked in an international biodiversity conservation policy project with the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Organisation for International Cooperation). Originally from Germany but growing up in Namibia, South Africa and Sri Lanka, he is an avid birder spending as much time as possible outdoors.
