Romaric Tegang

PROFILE

I am Romaric Tegang Pagning, an early-career conservation biologist from Cameroon with a strong passion for wildlife protection, particularly large carnivores such as lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, and the African golden cat. I also have a keen interest in other wildlife species, including pangolins, elephants, and giraffes. My work focuses on the ecology and conservation of these threatened species in Central Africa, particularly in Cameroon. As the Bénoué Complex Lion Project Coordinator for the past four years, I have led efforts to safeguard these iconic animals from extinction.

With hands-on experience in fieldwork, I have been involved in data collection, capacity building, and awareness-raising in protected areas across Cameroon.

I am enthusiastic in data analysis and management software, including R and QGIS, which help enhance research and conservation strategies. My current projects include studying human-wildlife coexistence as well as coordinating the bio-motoring of threatened species in the Benoué landscape and documenting the distribution and threats to the African golden cat in Boumba-Bek National Park using camera trap.

I am eager to expand my expertise through the WildCRU program, particularly in large carnivore conservation, human-wildlife conflict management, and the use of innovative technologies. I look forward to collaborating with professionals in the field, sharing experiences, and strengthening my conservation efforts, ultimately making a lasting impact on biodiversity conservation in Central Africa and beyond.
