Shadrach Mwaba (2019)

Alumni Diploma Students

I was born in Mansa, a beautiful town in the Northern part of Zambia. I studied Wildlife Management (BSc) at the Copperbelt University in Kitwe, Zambia, and graduated in 2015.
A few months after graduation, I joined the Zambian Carnivore Programme as a Research Assistant and later Field Ecologist in Liuwa Plain National Park, a remote ecosystem in Zambia’s Western Province. Since then, I have been doing daily field observations of large carnivores (hyaenas, cheetahs and lions) and herbivores.

The Diploma course will allow me to progress from an experienced field researcher into a conservation biologist with the theoretical and practical training needed to make a difference in my country. With this training, I intend to pursue a long career in conservation research, hopefully with a focus on the behavioural ecology of the Spotted Hyena and endangered mammals like the African Wild Dog.
