It did not settle well among some of my family members that I decided on a career in nature conservation, maybe something medical or business related could have done the trick. Anyway here I am, my interest in nature/wildlife conservation comes from my days in high school, and my main source of information and guide was the National Geographic channel on TV. It was not a popular field and even when I was in University studying, our colleagues would mock us with very embarrassing remarks. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2013 from the Copperbelt University in Zambia.

My independent undergraduate research (unpublished) was focused on “the role of private game reserves on ecotourism in Mosi-o-Tunya NP.

I started my career as an intern ecologist with African lion and environmental research trust. Where I worked with a senior ecologist on lion studies, as well as the elephant movement (between Zambia and Zimbabwe) dynamics project. The elephant project was sanctioned by the government department which made me feel part of the bigger circle. I later joined the Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) as a field ecologist assistant, where I proved myself, became full time ecologist and earned a senior researcher tittle after working in the field for 5 years. I have worked in ZCP’s Kafue, South Luangwa and Liuwa sites, spending more time in Liuwa focusing on hyaena, lions, cheetah, wild dogs, and wildebeest. I have also been involved in community outreach, reaching out to communities especially schools conducting conservation/general life education.

Being part of Oxford Wildcru Diploma 2018, is more than a dream to me, to learn from and be part of the cream. It is an indelible opportunity and the concepts and ethics I am getting here will be far reaching. My interests are, but not limited to, mammal, and invertebrate conservation.
